The Rowdymen
These rockabilly rowdies from The 'Peg are
catching attention beyond the borders of
Canada.

Wheatfield rockabilly
Okay, when most of us think of
Winnipeg's
contribution to rock music, they
think of
the Guess Who or the Crash Test
Dummies or
Remy Shand. But a bunch of rockabilly
cats
called The Rowdymen, with seriously
slicked-back
hair and a reputation for some
high-energy
shows, are catching plenty of
attention from
rockabilly fans. That's the buzz
from the
Los Angeles-based Rockabilly
Review: "What
we get is high octane, edgy rockabilly
music
that takes the classics and updates
the sound
into the 21st century while respecting
the
original classics. This is hard
rockin' rockabilly
music."
On tour and disc
Rockabilly is the kind of music that is best
seen live, and The Rowdymen have played hundreds
of shows since they first came together in
1997. Their touring caught the eyes and ears
of some industry insiders. In the spring
of 2001 the band was the lone Canadian rockabilly
band at Viva Las Vegas 5, North America's
largest rockabilly festival, in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
Folks who want to take The Rowdymen
sound
home with them can pick up their
first CD,
Rowdy Duty. Their followup disc, Rubberneckin', hit the racks in March, 2003.
